D-Bishop-150xCommissioner Spotlight: Danny Bishop

Danny Bishop, Corporate Director of Value Added Training, The Crosby Group (Tulsa, OK), brings to the NCCCO Commission more than 30 years’ experience in the industry, where he has primarily focused on rigging, rigging products, and the proper use of Crosby’s rigging products to maximize lifting safety. In his current position, he oversees Crosby’s worldwide training efforts, including Crosby’s global efforts to promote safe use and inspection of rigging equipment.

Mr. Bishop’s direct involvement with the Commission has increased significantly over the past few years, but he has been indirectly involved with NCCCO since its early years. For example, he has required that Crosby trainers have at least CCO Rigger Level I certification since NCCCO first offered rigger certification. Crosby offers product training on safe and proper use of Crosby products in many languages worldwide, and since the inception of Crosby training in 1991 more than 300,000 people have attended Crosby training seminars. Mr. Bishop has personally performed over 750 seminars on basic/advanced rigging topics, block application, and heavy lift topics.

Danny enjoys contributing his expertise to NCCCO’s elite group of subject matter experts who are dedicated to raising the bar on crane and rigging safety. “By involving top-level industry experts in the development of crane-related personnel certifications, NCCCO has helped improve the professionalism and education of crane operators, signalpersons, and riggers,” he says. “CCO certification makes work sites safer by reducing accidents and deaths resulting from crane and lifting activities.”

Danny earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Tulsa and has been employed by The Crosby Group since 1981, where he has held numerous positions in manufacturing, special engineered products, sales, and training. He is a past Board Chairman of ACRP (Association of Crane and Rigging Professionals), and he still serves on ACRP board of directors. He believes that his 32+ years in the rigging industry complements the combined crane expertise among the other Commissioners and committee members and this experience will help keep CCO rigger certifications the best available.

When not working, Danny enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife Karen, two grown sons, and seven grandchildren. When time allows and he can get out of cell phone range he also enjoys occasional fishing trips.
